In week 9, we learned about the topic of Field Works on Campus Observation- IIUM as a sustainable campus. In IIUM, several initiatives have been implemented to achieve sustainable development goals. One of them is IIUM Mahabbah Food Bank organised by the Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs. This food bank helps to combat hunger among the students which is aligned with SDG 2 (Zero Hunger). Besides, in CFS IIUM, they had established the CFS Sejahtera Room providing free clothes and food for students in need. This initiative made by the IIUM campus aligned with the sustainable development goals to achieve a sustainable society among students. Cat shelters also had been built around the campus to ensure the sustainability of the cat population as IIUM is full of cats and they are being taken care of nicely by certain societies and clubs. This shows how IIUM provides basic needs not only for their students but for all including animals.

From all of these initiatives, I am really glad that I went to a campus that is contributing something to society and other creations. Now, it is our time as students to contribute our part in making changes to our campus by turning off electricity when not in use and sorting our trash in the right place. We need to be aware of how much water we use followed by certain actions such as closing the tap when brushing our teeth and taking showers shortly and wisely. We also can donate our food to avoid food waste.
All in all, I really enjoyed this week’s lesson as I can know and understand my responsibility as a student living on the campus to sustain the campus environment as well as the planet.
